It Takes Two To Play Ping Pong (Lance)

Cosi peered out the window, the glass was cold to the touch and water trickled down on the outer pane of glass. It was raining and the sky was thick with black clouds that spoke about doom and sorrow. She hated rainy days like this, the days it just doesn't stop pouring down. She didn't hate Autumn weather nor did she bare any sort of love for it. It was simply a season of the year that must pass so that winter may come. Winter, on the other hand, she did enjoy. She often referred to it as cuddle weather, though she had no one she would likely cuddle...she loved the beautiful snow and they way trees looked without their leaves and in place was piles upon piles of snow..somehow was fascinating to her.

Something shiny caught in her periphery and she looked down to spy a rusty, bent nail that had been strangely intertwined with the lock on the window. She reached for it with her left hand, the one closest to the nail. Her fingers fumbled around with it and the metal against metal did not create a totally pleasant sound, but at least it wasn't too loud. Come....on......you.....stubborn....nail. She said through gritted teeth and intervals where she took a break against the struggle of freeing the nail. Now she took her right hand and pulled with all of her strength.

With one last pull, the nail came free but through all her efforts it had been twisted even further, looking much more like a corkscrew than a regular nail. She felt her body tilting backward and she realized at once that she was falling. She fell flat on her ass and the soreness immediately creeped in, especially when she stood to dust off her pants and sweatshirt.

She then pulled the twisted nail close so she could inspect and marvel at it. This would definitely be added to her collection, so far it was an instant favorite of hers. She wondered if she could make something out of all the nails she had collected over time. The game room was essentially quiet, safe for her tumble with Mr. Nail here. She tucked it quickly into her pocket after she got a good look at it, she would not be very pleased if it was confiscated from her.

[LANCE LOVE LIONE]

He needed something to take his mind off of Mimi. He needed to free his mind. Sighing he pushed himself up off of the bed. Mimi symbolized yet another person he'd disappointed. But she really hadn't been a person, had she? She was just a stuffed animal. It had been a week since he lost her. He felt like he could cry for days and not stop. He wanted only to curl up on his bed. Never love again. Never look at anyone again. However when he'd laid down to do just that he could hear his mother. She had told him that he had to be brave and that things would get better. His hands crept down his hospital gown and gripped the hem tightly with his fingers. Knuckles turned white as he clamped down on the fabric, tugging it down as if he could make it stretch and cover more of his skin. As usual Lance had no shoes on. The floor was cold and foreboding on his bare skin. He could feel goosebumps forming on his arms and legs, spreading over his skin like the plague. Wouldn't that be nice? An easy death like the plague and he'd never have to look at anyone again. Never have to love again. Never get hurt again. Never be thrown away again. Unfortunately, things weren't that easy. There was no special, bittersweet escape for Lance Lione. Nope. He was just going to have to grow a pair and sit it out here. Maybe that had been Candace's plan all along. Maybe she hadn't actually thrown him a way. Maybe he was supposed to use this to become more masculine. After a moment of thought he sighed, shook his head and looked back down at the floor as he walked down the hall. Who was he kidding? There was no way he could become what Candace or any other girl for that matter wanted him to be. He was who he was. Although it made him sad that he would disappoint everyone around him. Suddenly, as he was shuffling past the games room he heard a thump. His eyebrows lurched upward and he tugged on his hospital gown even harder. One of the mentally disturbed patients down the hall was screaming again. This made Lance begin to sweat and he felt his heartbeat begin to race. This was probably what motivated Lance to stick his head in the games room. It might have also been his curiosity, after all it had sounded like....yup. Just like someone had fallen on their butt. He watched as the girl who had done the falling stood up and placed something in her pocket. He wasn't really sure what it had been, but Lance moved into the room anyway. It could have been something dangerous, not that Lance cared. You okay, miss? That didn't look like a very fun fall... He spoke softly, his words drenched in kindness. [/scrolly]

You okay, miss? That didn't look like a very fun fall... Cosette jumped probably ten feet in the air, her heart thundered in her chest as if it was trying to break out of its own prison of bone. Cosi looked side-long, though obviously wary and suspicious, at the man who had just entered the room and spoke to her not five seconds ago. There were not many whom you could easily trust in Candel Heart Asylum, she learned that the hard way. He wasn't a Doctor, so that was at least a relief she greatly received.

In answer of his question, she moved her head up and down, I'm fine. She told him, her voice meek and uncertain. She rocked back and forth on the balls of her heel, feeling as if she had been caught in a lie and was forced to listen to the scolding. The feeling was merely caused because she had recently acquired an exquisite nail, though rusted, and she couldn't be sure if he was a blabbermouth yet or not.

Did you see? She asked vaguely, not wanting to give too much away if he hadn't seen anything at all and was merely drawn to the sound of her fall. She could mean anything from her struggling to pull out the nail all the way to the moment she stuffed said nail into her pocket. Chocolate eyes flickered up at him and then were easily drawn back down to the cold floor.
